  DIRECTOR's Note

Mutsuyo was my roommate when I was still a student in New York. We happened to be from the same city, Kobe, and leaned that we went to schools very close to each other. We used to say how small the world is.

Three years after we met, it was her who first called and informed me about the earthquake.  I had started working and living alone at that time. One day in January 1995, when I came home, I found a voice message telling me that Kobe is in disastrous situation.

After countless attempts for over a day, I could reach my family on the phone, but Mutsuyo could not. Only element of dividing life and death was where they slept on that particular night.

This film is my search for an answer to many big questions about our little, precious, fragile lives.
